When Sarpa Samskara Pooja is Performed

First day

Devotees arrive at the temple and check into the hotels they have booked. They then dip at the Kumaradhara River, a stone-throw distance from the temple (Approx. 1 Kilometre). Men put on Dhoti and walk to the temple. Pilgrims then perform the six Pradakshinam. The devotees are given a token number and ticket after showing their online booking receipt to the temple counter.

The pilgrims then proceed to Aadi Subramanya Swamy and Sarpa Samskara Mantap temple. Men remain shirtless and form 8 groups. Each group is represented by priests who conduct the Pooja. Each pilgrim gets a priest. Devotees then sit in a disputed place with a snake idol, labelled seats, flowers, and a towel.

The priest proceeds after being given a new towel. He picks up a snake idol, covers it with a cloth, and lays it on Homa Gunda. On the first day, the rituals performed are the last rituals of the serpent killed by the Devotee or the Devotee’s family member. The priest then picks up the second serpent and lays it in a different place to symbolize the end of the first day.

Second day

Devotees can either pass to the dip or walk directly to the temple from their hotel rooms. All pilgrims are required to be in the temple by 6 am with either Dhoti or Saree garments. The priest who completed the first ritual attends the second one. A Rangoli, which resembles a snake, is drawn.

The Devotee then accords the wheat balls to the priest after performing three Pradakshinam to the snake idol. The pilgrim then acquires blessings from the Brahmachari seated in a row as they leave. They then perform Pradakshinam to the cows found outside Mantap and then take breakfast from the dining hall.

When noon approaches, the devotees Nagapratista in the main temple to complete their rituals. The devotees receive a Prasadam cover consisting of; dhoop sticks, Prasadam, and coconut, which they should take for 12 days before breakfast. The devotees should avoid eating onions, non-vegetables, and garlic for those twelve days.
